New Habits To Relieve Stress & Anxiety

Relieve stress and anxiety during The Holidays and for Back-To-School!  This can be an important time to give our body extra nourishment. During this time of year it can be busy and stressful for parents as well as for kids. Just a month ago, we all were in the laid back, easy going summer days. However, as we shift to the school and Holiday Season, we are likely to put extra stress on our body.

As the stress builds up, we tend to eat foods that may not nourish our bodies. In addition, as the days get shorter and winter approaches, we start tending to not move our body daily. The build up of these daily habits starts creating anxiety that we do not know how to relieve. Let’s be honest, it can be a bit much!

Therefore, this is why the Holiday Season is the perfect time to integrate new healthy habits to combat stress and anxiety. Here are a few of our favorites…

Focus on your Morning Routine

Once our phone turns on and we start our to-do-list for the day.  The day begins to run away from us! We’re off… whether or not we are ready! While it may seem like a hard idea to do at first, waking up 20-30 minutes earlier to identify and regain our focus can have big benefits.

Journaling is quality ‘mind time’ that can add energy to your day from the get go! Sitting down with a blank page may seem scary, but giving yourself a moment with your inner workings can help you discover desires and identify ways to achieve them. In addition, it’s a super easy way to release stress and work through underlying emotions. As well, adding affirmations is a way to boost confidence and happiness to our life when we need it the most.

To start, set out a paper and pen the night before. It is best to have a journal if you have access to one. As soon as you rise, do some light stretches, grab some cold or warm lemon water, and sit down to write conscious thoughts for 15-20 minutes (approx. 2-3 pages)

Make Your Morning Habits a Priority

By making a regular morning practice, you’ll have an outlet for working through issues that might otherwise get unattended to.


Mid-Day Energize

Before running to the next meeting or another errand, take time to energize and recharge so you can relieve stress and anxiety. This can bring focus to the rest of the day. Carving out a little “YOU” time to move your body and connect with any thoughts or emotions you may be experiencing.

Wherever you are for lunch, begin by bringing attention to your breath. Breathe in and out slowly. When thoughts come in to disrupt concentration, that’s ok. Notice what’s coming to mind and then go right back to your breath by breathing in deeply and excelling all that doesn’t serve you.

After you take 5-10 minutes of breath work, move your body for 10-20 minutes. This may include a walk, dancing to your favorite music, a cardio routine or some fun ab exercises. This will bring in new oxygen and energy to the body and release anything that may be creating stress and anxiety within.

Finish off the mid day break with a whole food lunch.

The Night Time Relax 

Daily night time habits that help relax and calm the body help various systems of the body to repair and cleanse toxins. Knowing this, we can be energized and strong again to start a brand new day! Allowing the body to establish nighttime habits to wind down, can send you off to sleep much easier. 

At least one hour before bed, turn off blue light-emitting electronics. These electronics can can hijack our sleep cycle. Therefore, putting them away (ideally outside of the bedroom altogether) an hour before bed, lets melatonin flow within our body. Also, these bright lights trick the body into thinking it’s day time, making it much harder to fall asleep.

Whether you are a parent or by yourself, start dimming down the lights a couple hours before bed, put on some calming music, and diffuse some lavender essential oils.
