The Story Behind Aloha Hemp

It all started at a sunny beach in Hawaii. Inbetween surfing sessions and other joyful activities, three Norwegian girls started making necklaces and bracelets out of shells and hemp twine. Soon the jewelry caugth the attention of the surfers at the beach, and the hobby grew into a small scale business.

Back home in Norway the hobby grew into a company, and the ideology behind the brand was created while the girls traveled the world, found partners and visited surf sports and snowy mountains. 

In our company, Aloha Hemp, a lot has happened since the good times in Hawaii. The ideology and the lifestyle is the same, but the design and the product line are slightly changed. We continue to make ecological clothing, and we want to use hemp a lot, as it is the strongest natural fiber in the world. However sometimes we feel like some future products will be better using ecological cotton or wool. The name Aloha Hemp was somewhat limiting our development. In 2009 we therefore made a big change and decided to introduce the clothing collection MOKAii by Aloha Hemp.

MOKAii is two Hawaiian words put together. The words mean Island/forest (mo) and ocean (kai), so it fits our story, the target group and our playground. The company name is still Aloha Hemp and the logo, the blue wave, is the same..
